Position: Contract Reviewer

The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Data Scientist will work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator on a number of large-scale international research projects in the field of machine learning with application to cancer early detection. Specifically, the AI Data Scientist will work with quantitative analysis of medical imaging using deep learning in conjunction with clinical and epidemiological phenotype data. The AI Data Scientist will be involved in all aspects of research study development, funding, initiation, execution, analysis, result interpretation and presentation, and publication of results. The position will initially be for one year full-time with the possibility of renewal.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Working as part of a team, the Contract Reviewer is responsible for the review, drafting, and negotiation of a variety of agreements covering academic and industry funded research. The position requires ‘in office’ hours as well as provides for the opportunity for some remote work.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Working under the supervision of the Managing Research Counsel, and in consultation with fellow Contract Reviewers, Research Counsel, researchers and other advisors, the Contract Reviewer will have the following responsibilities:
The review, drafting, and negotiation of research related agreements including but not limited to:
- non-disclosure agreements, data and material sharing agreements, clinical laboratory studies
- industry-sponsored and investigator-initiated clinical studies
- consortium and network agreements
- research services and related agreements
- grant related agreements
- provide general contract advice to other members of the Office of Technology Transfer & Industry Liaison
- input into process improvement initiatives
- additional tasks as assigned
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Undergraduate degree in Health Science or Biomedical Science-related program or Paralegal/Law degree
- Minimum 2 years of experience
- Working knowledge of Canadian and Ontario health law including privacy, contract, and intellectual property law in the context of an academic biomedical research environment, including knowledge of the legislation and regulations governing human participant and animal research
- Able to critically read, analyze and write a variety of legal and technical documents
- Able to review, draft, and negotiate a variety of contracts in a timely manner
- Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize effectively with exceptional time management skills
- A well-organized, self-starter able to work independently as well as in a small team environment
- Excellent and effective communication and negotiation skills, both verbal and written
- Collaborate with appropriate stakeholders and external parties throughout contract negotiations
- Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance record
- Keen to learn and become proficient with increasingly complex contracts
