A Product Owner is an agile project manager who oversees and coordinates the development and delivery of a digital product that meets customers’ needs, using agile method.
A true conductor/orchestrator, the Product Owner bridges the gap between the technical (IT & Network) and business (Customer Service, Sales, Marketing & Customers) sides of a product, driving it toward continuous improvement and ensuring its quality. This process aims to maximize the value offered to users.
We are looking to fill the role of product owner for our mobile app, as part of its Next Generation digital channels programme. The below outlines the ideal role profile;
- In-depth knowledge of Agile process and principles
- Understands business needs, priorities and capabilities, as well as customer needs & priorities
- Has a sufficient digital background to identify technical issues and be able to interact with development teams
- Sharp analytical and problem-solving skills
- Creative thinker with a vision
- Able to own roadmap and help to shape this by working closely with various stakeholders to integrate with business strategy
- Experience with change management and working in a matrix environment
- Makes sound and timely decisions based on careful consideration of a range of factors, including all aspects of risk and return
- Enthusiastic, thorough, inclusive and results-oriented
- Outstanding communication, presentation, and leadership skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Previous overall working experience of 5-10 years, including 3+ years working as a Product Owner.
- Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Masters in CS or Business Administration highly desired
Responsibilities for product owner
- Understand the company’s vision and customer expectations
- Take the lead of scrum teams as the Product Owner
- The ability to think strategically and be able to network across multiple functions, business units, external stakeholders
- Providing vision and direction to the Agile development team and stakeholders
- Research and analyze market, the users, and the roadmap for the product
- Strong user empathy and able to represent the customer in product development
- Formulating and prioritizing the needs
- Contribute to a clear product vision, program backlog and product release planning
- Build and maintain a deep understanding of all the product aspects, including the customers and user perspective, competitive products and our technical capabilities
- Elicit customer insights and requirements using interviews, requirements workshops, storyboards, surveys, business process descriptions, use cases, scenarios, business analysis, competitive product analysis
- Lead the planning product release plans and set the expectation for delivery of new functionalities
- Provide an active role in mitigating impediments impacting successful team completion of Release/Sprint Goals
- Follow our competitors and the industry.
- Work with User Experience, Design and IT to design and deliver the optimum customer experience for each development
- Track assigned budget and resources and provides input to the annual budget development process
- Groom the product backlog, prioritizing highest customer value features first
- Translate the program backlog into user stories and product iterations to feed the implementation team(s)
- Collaborate with the Scrum team to prioritize, plan, and release working product increments
- Keep stakeholders involved by gathering input and communicating progress
- Collect and analyzes usability studies, market research, and user feedback to identify and recommend product enhancements and market opportunities
- Ensure the completeness and accuracy of product backlog items for the Scrum team by creating clear and thoughtful documentation
- Contribute to the success of the Scrum team by being an active participant in all Scrum ceremonies
- Respect and empower the Scrum team’s ability to create its own plan of action each sprint while protecting the team
- Handle critical, complex and enterprise projects
- Establish goals and metrics to measure the effectiveness after release
- Keep abreast with Agile/Scrum best practices and new trends
- Gather, understand and document requirements
Qualifications for product owner
- Experience with Agile development tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Rally
- University degree, preferably in business, computer science, marketing, or other relevant areas
- Bachelors in Computer Science, Masters in CS or Business Administration highly desired
- A business school education with a pronounced attraction for Tech and the digital world
- An engineering background with an appetite and skills in project management
- A bachelor’s degree offered by the European School of internet Professions
- Different certifications like the Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO) or the Certification Scrum Product Owner (CSPO)
- 3-5 years of directly applicable experience as a PO in a software organization, with 8+ years of related business experience
- CSPO or equivalent certification is desired
